BAROOGA SPORTS BOWLS CLUB RESULTS

As a follow-up from last week’s news, our two ladies’ triples teams played at Finley on Sunday, with the triple of Cheryl Merrett, Ruth Burnett and Fran Thatcher taking on Numurkah Golf.

In the final, Numurkah Golf played very well and was too strong for our girls, winning 27/10.

Congratulations to both our triples teams for making it through to this stage and eventually finishing up runners-up in the state triples.

Thanks also to those members who travelled to Finley to support the girls.

On Thursday, the final of the ladies club championship was played, and in an entertaining game, Karen Bruce defeated Ruth Burnett after the scores were 24 all.

Congratulations, Karen, and all the best for the champion of champions games to be played in February.

There was no Keith’s Friday this week due to lack of numbers, no doubt brought about due to the threat of rain and the amount of bowling that members are involved in at this stage of the year.

The jackpot will again be available this week with three draws if need be for the $300 jackpot. If the jackpot hasn’t gone off by Friday 22, then on that Friday, we will keep drawing until it does go off.

Monday night bowls have started and are going well with teams enjoying the bowls and friendship.

One more team is required, so if you were thinking of playing Monday nights, let Col Campbell know.

Men’s trade days are going well with Barooga teams featuring well every week, although I have no details to report.

Pennant this week saw midweek pennant division one lose by four shots to Finley, and division two also lost by a narrow margin of three shots to Numurkah.

In Saturday pennant, our division one team travelled to Katandra West and went down 45/75.

Division two travelled to Finley and won 67/42 winning on two rinks. Division three was at home against Cobram and won 62/51.

Division five was also at home against Picola and lost on both rinks by one shot and lost overall by two shots.

A couple of good wins and some close results.

The Christmas party is coming up quickly and will be held on Saturday, December 16 with live entertainment and a catered dinner so it would be appreciated if members could put their name down for this event to assist with catering.

There are no bowls on this day, so come along and join the Christmas cheer.

Finally, don’t forget that a strong showing of players is requested for training this Wednesday, which is set for 4pm, followed by a sausage sizzle and a meeting with the selectors.
