NOVEMBER COMMUNITY UPDATE GOULBURN VALLEY PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT Did you know it’s Thunderstorm Asthma Season?

Thunderstorm asthma is a condition triggered by a rare combination of lots of grass pollen and certain types of thunderstorms. This usually occurs more often in our region and across Victoria between October to December during the grass pollen season. It can be very serious and even life-threatening for people with asthma and hayfever.

Here is how you can stay safe from Thunderstorm Asthma

• Check the Vic Emergency website or app to know if there’s thunderstorm asthma events.

• Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to make an asthma action plan if you don’t already have one and learn how to help others with asthma by learning Asthma first aid

• Take your asthma or hayfever medicines as directed, even when you don’t have symptoms.

• Carry your puffer at all times in case of an

unexpected asthma attack.

• Avoid being outside, close windows and doors, and if it is safe, don’t use air conditioning that brings in outdoor air.
